Cotton Trousers for Sensitive Skin — Why Fabric Matters in Pakistan's Heat

If your legs itch, prickle or break out in heat rash by the end of a Pakistani summer day, your trousers are usually part of the problem. Polyester and poly-viscose blends trap heat and sweat against the skin; 100% cotton lets both escape. This guide explains why fabric matters, what to check on the label, and who feels the difference most.

Why polyester blends make Pakistan's heat feel worse

Most ready-made trousers sold in Pakistan are polyester or poly-viscose blends, even when the tag says 'cotton feel' or 'cotton rich'. Polyester is essentially plastic spun into thread. It absorbs almost no moisture, so when you sweat, the sweat has nowhere to go. It sits on your skin, the fabric sticks, and the space between skin and cloth turns warm and damp. If you are not sure what you are buying, our guide on how to tell cotton from polyester shows two quick tests you can do at home.

That warm, damp layer is exactly where trouble starts. Blocked sweat ducts cause prickly heat, the itchy red dots most of us know as garmi ke dane. Constant friction from damp fabric adds chafing along the inner thighs and waistband. In a 40 degree Lahore or Karachi afternoon, a polyester trouser quietly makes all of this worse, hour after hour.

What actually makes cotton breathable

Cotton is a natural fibre that behaves like a towel rather than a raincoat. It absorbs a meaningful amount of sweat into the fibre itself, then releases it into the air as vapour. Pair that with an open, medium-weight weave and air keeps moving through the fabric, so your skin stays noticeably drier and cooler than it would under a synthetic.

Drier skin matters more than most people realise. Itching, irritation and rash all get going on damp, overheated skin. Keep the skin dry and ventilated and you remove the conditions they need. That is the entire case for cotton in a Pakistani summer, and it is why generations here wore cotton long before performance fabrics existed.

Why organic cotton is the safer choice for sensitive skin

If your skin is sensitive, the fibre is only half the story; the processing is the other half. Conventionally processed fabric can carry residues of bleach, harsh finishing chemicals and cheap dyes, and that fabric then sits against your skin for ten or twelve hours a day. Organic cotton is grown without harsh pesticides and, when finished properly, is processed with skin-friendly dyes and without aggressive chemical treatments.

This is the standard we built Desire Cotton around. The Everyday Trouser is 100% organic cotton, coloured with skin-friendly dyes in six everyday shades, and garment-washed after stitching — a wash that softens the fabric and rinses out residue before it ever reaches you.

One honest note: breathable, chemical-light clothing helps prevent the heat and dampness where rashes and irritation begin. It is everyday clothing, not a medical treatment. If a rash persists or keeps returning, see a dermatologist.

Who feels the difference most

Almost everyone is more comfortable in cotton once the temperature crosses 35 degrees, but some people feel the switch within the first day.

  • People with sensitive or rash-prone skin, where synthetic fabric triggers itching within hours
  • Children, whose skin is thinner and more reactive; our kids' three-quarter shorts in the same fabric are coming soon
  • Bike commuters and anyone who spends long hours outdoors, where sweat and friction work together
  • Anyone in trousers ten hours a day: shopkeepers, teachers, office and field staff

What to check before you buy, from any brand

Use this checklist whether you buy from us or from a shop in your own market. The label tells you most of what you need to know.

  • The label must say 100% cotton. 'Cotton feel', 'cotton rich' or T/C means a blend.
  • Garment-washed or pre-washed fabric is softer from day one and has already had its shrinkage taken out.
  • A medium-weight, breathable weave; if you cannot feel any air through the fabric, your skin will not either.
  • Skin-friendly or azo-free dyes where the brand declares them, especially if your skin reacts easily.
  • A soft elasticated waistband, since stiff waistbands cause most waistline chafing.

Where The Everyday Trouser fits in

We built The Everyday Trouser against this exact checklist: 100% organic cotton, garment-washed, a breathable weave, skin-friendly dyes and a soft elastic waist. It comes in sizes S to 4XL and six colours, Olive Green, Navy Blue, Steel Blue, Grey, Black and Cream White, at Rs 2,999 instead of Rs 4,999. You pay cash on delivery with no advance, delivery is free anywhere in Pakistan, and if the size is off you have a 7-day easy exchange. If you are buying in bulk for a shop or team, message us on WhatsApp; minimums are flexible, typically 20 pieces and up, with sizes and colours mixable.

Frequently asked questions

Does cotton clothing prevent heat rash?+

It helps prevent the conditions that cause it. Heat rash happens when sweat ducts get blocked on hot, damp skin, and breathable cotton keeps skin drier and cooler so that is far less likely. It is not a cure; if a rash is persistent, consult a doctor.

Is organic cotton really different from regular cotton?+

The fibre feels similar; the difference is in growing and processing. Organic cotton avoids harsh pesticides, and properly finished organic fabric skips aggressive chemical treatments and uses skin-friendly dyes. Those processing residues, more than the fibre itself, are what sensitive skin usually reacts to.

Will 100% cotton trousers shrink in the wash?+

Garment-washed cotton is already pre-shrunk, so shrinkage is minimal. Machine wash cold, line dry in the shade and use a warm iron if needed — see how to wash cotton trousers without shrinking for the full routine.

What if I order the wrong size?+

The elastic waist covers a range — S fits a 28 to 32 inch waist and 4XL fits 40 to 44 — with a 7-day easy size exchange on every order. Check the full trouser size chart in inches to match your measurement, and allow half an inch to an inch of variance for manual measurement.
