Most ready-made trousers sold in Pakistan are polyester or poly-viscose blends, even when the tag says 'cotton feel' or 'cotton rich'. Polyester is essentially plastic spun into thread. It absorbs almost no moisture, so when you sweat, the sweat has nowhere to go. It sits on your skin, the fabric sticks, and the space between skin and cloth turns warm and damp. That warm, damp layer is exactly where trouble starts. Blocked sweat ducts cause prickly heat, the itchy red dots most of us know as garmi ke dane. Constant friction from damp fabric adds chafing along the inner thighs and waistband. In a 40 degree Lahore or Karachi afternoon, a polyester trouser quietly makes all of this worse, hour after hour.
What actually makes cotton breathable
Cotton is a natural fibre that behaves like a towel rather than a raincoat. It absorbs a meaningful amount of sweat into the fibre itself, then releases it into the air as vapour. Pair that with an open, medium-weight weave and air keeps moving through the fabric, so your skin stays noticeably drier and cooler than it would under a synthetic.
Drier skin matters more than most people realise. Itching, irritation and rash all get going on damp, overheated skin. Keep the skin dry and ventilated and you remove the conditions they need. Use this checklist whether you buy from us or from a shop in your own market. The label tells you most of what you need to know.
- The label must say 100% cotton. 'Cotton feel', 'cotton rich' or T/C means a blend.
- Garment-washed or pre-washed fabric is softer from day one and has already had its shrinkage taken out.
- A medium-weight, breathable weave; if you cannot feel any air through the fabric, your skin will not either.
- Skin-friendly or azo-free dyes where the brand declares them, especially if your skin reacts easily.
- A soft elasticated waistband, since stiff waistbands cause most waistline chafing.
